Vivian Adele Schade 95, of Gladbrook died Sunday, February 5, 2012, at Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook. Vivian was born November 10, 1916on a farm east of Garwin, IA to J.H. and Adele (Borm) Luethje. She attended country school in Howard Township through the 8th grade, and then attended high school in Gladbrook, living with her Grandma and Grandpa Borm, and graduating in 1934. While in high school, she rode the train (the Dinkey) on Friday night to Garwin, where her dad met her and on Sunday evening rode the train back. After graduation, she worked in homes of various families in the Toledo, Garwin and Gladbrook areas. She married Lester Schade on December 8, 1937 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. They lived in La Porte City where both of their children were born and Lester owned a business. In 1945 after her husband passed his physical to go to the service, they sold the business and moved to Garwin where Vivian and their children could be close to both sets of parents. Before Les was called to service, the war was over. They moved to Traer and were in the DX tank wagon business. In 1949, they moved to Gladbrook and started a recreation parlor which Vivian helped operate. In addition to that business, they bought trucks and started Schade Lime & Rock and she continued to work in that business as well. She also was a school bus driver for many years for the Gladbrook schools. She was a member of the Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook and belonged to the afternoon Fellowship of the church and the Gladbrook Women's Club for a time. Vivian enjoyed spending time with her family and playing cards in a number of clubs. She loved to dance, fish, travel and camp in their motor home. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lester in 1982, a sister Elva, a brother Merlyn, a brother-in-law Glen Bohnsack and sister-in-law Betty Luethje. She is survived by two children Leon (Pat) Schade of Gilbert, AZ and Judy (Marvin) Wendel of Gladbrook, IA, five grandchildren Cynde (Tim) Turner of Twin Lakes, IA, Lisa (Randy) Markley of Ames, IA, Renee (Ron) Myers of Marshalltown, IA, Sue (John) Auer of Clive, IA and Myron (Danielle) Wendel of Las Vegas, NV, 14 great grandchildren; Jeff, Jennifer, Cory, Jessica, Shane, Jina, Carl, Ashley, Matthew, Samantha, Jacob, Michael, Mattison and Nick, and 5 great great grandchildren; Mason, Harper, Zane, Grace and Andrew, one sister Ila Bohnsack of Gladbrook, IA, one brother Newell Luethje of Floissant, MO and many nieces and nephews.
