Joy Baker was born in Newport, Arkansas, daughter of Arville and Lucy Daringer Latting. When she was one year old the family moved with her family to Iowa and settled in Traer. She attended school in Mt. Auburn, Iowa where she graduated from high school in 1939. On July 18, 1940 she was united in marriage to Raymond Baker in Cedar Rapids, IA. After their marriage they made their home in Cedar Rapids for a time until 1946 when they moved to Dysart. Joy was a familiar face around the Dysart community where she worked in many businesses and was a nurse's aid at Sunnycrest Care Center in Dysart until her retirement. For the past few years she has made her home in Vinton where her death came on Friday, January 20, 2012 at the age of 91 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond in 1975, brother Webster and sister Jewell and one grand daughter Jane Marie Baker. She is survived by two sons Dick (Nancy) Baker of Dysart, Joe (Peggy) Baker of Diamond Head, Mississippi, two daughters, Carol (Les) Wood of Bostic, North Carolina and Connie (Carl) Morrison of Vinton, IA, one brother Cecil Latting of Waverly, Iowa, three sisters, Dorothy White of Marion, Iowa, Irene Kohl of Columbia, Missouri and Donna (Dwayne) Holst of Mt. View, California, 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.
