Sandra Sue Lines Genolous, 66, of Cedar Falls, was born on August 2, 1943 in Waterloo, Iowa; the daughter of Kenneth and Verona Tiedt Lines. Sandra attended school in Waterloo and graduated from East High School in 1962. In her early years, she worked at Powers Manufacturing and at Sid McKenna Color Lab. While a student in the 7th grade, Sandra met Sam Genolous and it was love at first sight. Sandra and Sam were married at the First Lutheran Church in Waterloo on November 25, 1962. Once married, Sandra’s dedication was to her husband and her children where she took on the role of “family manager.”
Sandra was a late blooming artist who enjoyed ceramics, painting and other artwork. She loved to garden. Sandra had a unique fondness for the Waterloo Fourth Street Cruise having served on the initial planning committee. Sandra’s world revolved around her husband, her children and her grandchildren.
Following a long and courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis, Sandra went to meet her Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 29, 2010. She took His hand and is now walking with Him. Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Donna Beyer and a granddaughter, Sydney Smith. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Sam, of Cedar Falls; her children, Renee (Jeff) Smith of Robins, IA and Todd (Jenette) Genolous of Waverly; grandchildren, Brittney, Ashley and Rylie Smith of Robins and Samuel and Amy Genolous and Mary and Thor Crandall of Waverly and three sisters, Patty Franke of Hudson, Sharon Jones of Johnston, IA and Debbie (Ron) Carpenter of Enid, OK.
As a show of sympathy and as a manner of tribute to Sandra, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to The Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House, 315 18th Avenue, Hiawatha, IA 52233 or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in her honor.
