Henrietta Irene Halupnik was born at Traer, IA on February 18, 1919 to Henry and Elsie (Prigge) Dengler. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Dysart, IA. The family farm was located 2 miles west of Dysart and she graduated from Dysart High School in 1937. She worked in the Traer business district for several years before her marriage to Edward Halupnik in 1940. They lived on a farm 3 miles east of Traer. In 1969 she moved to Marshalltown and was employed at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center for 17 years as a nursing assistant. Her hobbies included bowling, golfing, fishing and dancing. After surviving 2 cancers, Irene was active in the Marshalltown Cancer Support Group for many years. Irene’s death came on Monday, February 7, 2011 at the Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer at the age of 91 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Helen Cavanaugh, brother Marvin Dengler, nephew Robert Dengler and several cousins. She is survived by two daughters Carma (Ron) Mattioda of Pensacola, FL; and Donna (William) Speirs of Clarion, IA, four grandchildren: Gina (Brian) Babcock and Maria Mattioda of Bradenton, FL; Corey (Constantina) Speirs of Fremont, NE; and Kevin (Tammy) Speirs of Clarion, IA, one great grandchild; Alex Babcock of Bradenton, FL; and nieces Marlene Sager of Reinbeck, IA and Carol Sellas of Cypress, CA.
