Tribute & Message From The Family


Kenneth LeRoy Sears was born November 5, 1930 in Grinnell, IA, son of Homer and Mae Stahl Sears. He received his education in the Geneseo schools and graduated from Geneseo High School. On July 10, 1952 he was united in marriage to Eugenia Vanderheyden at the Geneseo United Methodist Church. He then entered the United States Army and served his country from 1952 to 1954. Following his discharge he returned to the area to farm and farmed in the Traer and La Porte City areas. Following his retirement he remained on the farm and enjoyed spending time in the timber and woodcarving especially ducks and fish. After Eugenia's death on June 17, 2010 he remained on the farm and more recently has been making his home at the La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center in La Porte City. Kenneth's death came at the care center on Monday, November 7, 2011 at the age of 81 years. He was a member of the Geneseo United Methodist Church and Dysart American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sisters; Ruth Sears Temple and husband Kenneth, Lois Sears Danker and husband Bill, and two brothers Donald and Edgar Sears. He is survived by two daughters: Margaret (Kevin) Perrinjaquet of Edgewood, IA and Rhonda (Myron) Jack of Victor, IA, and one son Kevin Sears of White Rock, NM. Devoted grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandsons, one brother Art (Beth) Sears of Hiawatha, KS, sisters; Rhoda (late Keith) Wilkinson of Fayette, IA, Dorothy (late Dean) Elliott of Dysart, IA and Wilma (late Norman) Holub of Buckingham, IA, sisters-in-law Margaret (late Donald) Sears and Shirley (late Edgar) Sears both of Grinnell, IA and many loving nieces and nephews.

Condolence & Memory Journal

So many great memories of a grand neighbor!!! And Ken was always so interested in my life growing up with the horses and 4-H, someone I could count on if needed!!! I will Never forget my childhood memories and the connection the Sears family had with my family.

My prayers are with the family and especially to Margaret.
