Leone G. Stockdale, 91 formerly of Waterloo, died peacefully surrounded by family at Rockwell Community Nursing Home Friday, December 02, 2011, where she had resided for the past four years. Leone was born June 1, 1920 in Cresco, Iowa, the daughter of Claude and Bertha Specht Essen. She was raised on a farm and attended rural schools graduating from the eighth grade. Leone married Lester Anderson in 1940 and they later divorced. She worked in Cresco area restaurants for 30 years and was well known for her pastries, pies, and homemade soups. Leone is survived by two sons; Ronald W. (Judy) Anderson of Waterloo, Arnie (Brenda) Stockdale of Dysart, two daughters; Carol J (Dick) Poppe of Waterloo and Bonnie J. (Denny) Krause of Rockwell.. Nine grandchildren; Brian Holmes, Kimberly and Ronnie Anderson, Sara Lampson, Jason, Jeremy, and Dion Cody, Anthony and Brian Stockdale, nine great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a sister in law; Arlene Essen of Grundy Center. Leone is proceeded in death by her parents, two brothers; Darrell Essen of Grundy Center, Kenneth Essen of Cresco, a sister; Wanda Dewey of Garwin, a grandson; Bradley Holmes of Santa Fe, New Mexico and a granddaughter; Cyndy Reagan of Waterloo. She was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and belonged to the Ruth Circle. Leone's hobbies included sewing, quilting, rug making, dancing, old time country music and playing cards.
